We are a team of bike riding enthusiasts who not only love a good bike ride, but also love a cake, pasty or a good old decent pint of beer after a satisfying time out in the saddle.

Back in 2012, Dax was out on his trusty MTB on a freezing cold frosty Sunday morning on the South Downs in England with a group of friends.  They were muddy, cold, and in need of a warm drink and a sugar fix before tackling the next 20 miles back to base.  They met a dog walker who advised them if they got off the trail there was a good public house at the bottom of the hill.  So they stormed down the hill and found the pub which even at 10am on a Sunday was open for coffees and cakes.

After speaking with the owner, Dax soon realised that, if they had not bumped into this dog walker this public house would not have seen them and, more importantly they would not have had those fantastic cakes and coffees.

So whilst talking to the owner, thinking about getting back on his bike and looking the fantastic choice of ales that would be available a bit later in the day, the idea of Wheel Ale came about and later that day was founded.

WheelAle is all about finding and SHARING some excellent bike routes, on the road or off the road and sometimes even a mixture of the two, but with a twist.  All these routes feature bike and cyclist friendly establishments.  Places to start or finish at, with pit stops on the way. These can be cafes, tea rooms, service shops, bars and even bike parks.  All routes are vetted by us and all recomendations are approved to be entered onto the WheelAle.
